‘Discover the fun and challenge of live performance’ Ian McKellen NEW PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED 2009-2010 Welcome to Theatre Peckham A new beginning ... When I started introducing theatre to local children nearly 30 years ago, I had no idea that running out of space would be our biggest problem! Yet Theatre Peckham has grown to boast 400 members attending a weekly round of over forty performing arts classes, present up to three new productions each year, and offer practical external exams right up to BTEC. So it was a truly exciting moment last December when Southwark Council’s Executive voted to grant Theatre Peckham the lease of the historic Livesey Museum on the Old Kent Road. It won’t happen immediately, but we’re about to embark on a campaign to raise the funds necessary to reshape and refurbish the existing Livesey building, plans for which include space for a small studio theatre/installation space, two studios, a cafe, and children’s play area. Meanwhile our training programme continues to grow, with a pre-BTEC course (‘BTEC BOUND’) being introduced to complement the success of the BTEC NATIONAL. The best of our BTEC students won places as professional apprentice actors in this year’s productions – very much a first for Theatre Peckham and another way to develop the artists and arts’ leaders of tomorrow! Keep an eye on this website for campaign details. Teresa Early |
