Theatre Peckham works in partnership with schools, nurseries and community groups to create projects across the performing arts, led by our highly experienced team of professional workshop leaders. We can support schools to deliver the Primary Framework and key curriculum subjects such as Literacy, English and History; or provide children with extra-curricular activities at lunch time or after school. Current projects include:

Pathways Project
A long-term programme to develop work around the basic skills of speaking and listening.  Theatre Peckham’s unique project model can be specifically tailored to individual schools’ needs.  Our Speaking and Listening projects have proved particularly successful in engaging with children who are learning English as an additional language and those with Special Educational Needs.

Inclusion Project
Designed to engage children who may experience difficulties in school-life, this drama-based project focuses on developing children’s confidence, self-esteem, communication and social interactions skills.

CREATIVE MEDIA DIPLOMA
Breaking new ground at Theatre Peckham
This February saw the beginning of an exciting new partnership between Theatre Peckham, STEP and Southwark Education, working with young people from Southwark College and the Charter School, who completed two intensive weeks of work experience with us, to produce the new performance piece ‘Calling Shapes, Beckoning Shadows’.

INSET
Theatre Peckham can offer INSET for teachers based on a wide range of topics and all Key Stages.  Drama techniques are applied to behaviour and classroom management, communication skills, developing social skills through teamwork and role play, building confidence, and encouraging creativity and children’s imaginations. We can even give you advice on how to put on the school play!

Drama projects relating to specific curriculum areas
These projects can work towards performances of any size and can take place over a couple of days, or a more extended period of time.   Previous projects included working with Year 5 and 6 pupils on exploring the Slave Trade as part of Black History Month.

Amazing Grace After-School Project
This delightful after-school project for 5 - 7 year olds based on the famous children’s book by Mary Hoffman focused on storytelling, with children acting out stories and devising their own work on the cross-cultural tales of heroes from history. This project can be adapted for other ages and is suitable for schools and other groups.

Theatre Peckham Taster sessions
We can deliver in-school or after-school workshops in drama, dance and musical theatre. Any of the classes you read about in this brochure can be tailored to your needs, and we also have tutors with other areas of skill such as stage combat.

Productions
Theatre Peckham has an important role to play in introducing children and young people to the excitement of live performance. School-groups come to Theatre Peckham and experience a professional-standard show in a friendly environment, and at an affordable price.

Engagement Project
STEP and Theatre Peckham work with local young people at risk of exclusion.  Recently we successfully created and performed a devised piece of theatre as part of the Arts Award programme.  One of the young people involved discovered a real talent for technical theatre and was later taken on as a member of our technical crew for the Christmas show ‘Seven Cinderellas’.

Work Experience
During the production run of each play we offer young people the opportunity to shadow the professional team in all aspects of the process from design and direction, to administration and technical assistance for the show itself. Open to ages 14+ and adults.
