Our open access weekly workshop programme in performing arts continues to thrive with a membership of 400, one hundred of whom are now under 5! Last year we delivered almost forty classes for thirty weeks; we ran over one hundred and fifty accredited and in-house exams and assessments in performing arts disciplines and retain our one hundred per cent pass mark in all. BTEC results are our best ever, with 99% of students gaining a Distinction*/Distinction or Merit at GCSE and A-Level. As well, we celebrated the achievements of the children and young people training with us at three brilliant Open Days at Theatre Peckham and made our West end debut with the staggeringly successful window on the workshops ‘Class Acts’!

And now we are ready to do it all again, as well as offering two great new classes to try this year - Martial Arts for 7+, and a Lindy Hop /Swing class for adults. Deep breaths everyone!

Dance at Theatre Peckham

Ballet Open access
Our ballet classes for all ages focus on free movement and having fun, whilst students in higher levels extend their ballet vocabulary by learning more advanced steps, set dances from around the world and techniques, such a stretching, barre and centre work. In the summer term after the ballet exams our most promising and committed ballet dancers can progress into our Ballet Performance class to showcase their work at Theatre Peckham and beyond. Students progress is monitored with professional internal assessments each year.

Tap Open Access
Exciting and very popular dance classes for all ages and abilities, designed to improve rhythm and coordination. Under 5's and beginners start with the Preparation for Tap. As students progress they learn more intricate dance steps and more advanced routines set to toe tapping tunes. All students take part in professional annual assessments.

Street Fusion Open Access
A brilliantly popular and exciting class! Younger children begin with basic steps and plenty of opportunities to burn off energy and a fun introduction to this dance style. Older children learn more intricate footwork, and master the latest moves to Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk and Old Skool. Sign up early – places are limited and they go like hotcakes!

Charleston to Hip Hop Open Access
A unique opportunity to explore historic and contemporary African American dance forms including Charleston, Lindy Hop, tap, Jive, Bollywood and Hip Hop. Students of this great and unique class have performed at many prestigious events including ROAR at Sadlers Wells.

Young Dance Term 3 project / Dance Challenge Audition only
The Theatre Peckham Young Dance Company has performed all over town in professionally choreographed, original dance pieces, including shows at The Young Vic, Sadlers Wells, the Scoop and as finalists in the National Youth Dance Competition. This summer saw them smashing the Borough wide Dance Challenge at the Unicorn Theatre and securing a place in the national finals at Cadogan Hall London. Look out for Theatre Peckham’s Young Dance Company – they are really going places!

Theatre School Dance
A high energy dance class designed specially for Theatre School members to introduce skills, to help build confidence and to improve performance techniques. Theatre School members who are not enrolled in another Theatre Peckham dance class are required to attend. (audition only)

The Dance Pathway at Theatre Peckham
Alongside our established and highly successful Theatre School, we now offer a special dance programme of up to five classes per week ranging from Charleston to Hip-Hop, Street Fusion, Tap, Ballet and Dance performance. Students wishing to specialise in dance will be mentored by the dance team and encourage into advanced training through our links with professional companies.

Musical Theatre for 3 – 11 year olds – Open access
Outrageously popular and now available for under 5’s too, musical theatre classes combine movement, singing and acting. Perfect for budding performers, this fun class offers excellent grounding if you want to be in one of our Shows!

Singing

Singing 1 and 2 Open Access
A fun class for young people to develop their vocal techniques and performance skills. Older students work on rhythm, harmony and pitch control and are taught a varied and exciting repertoire through group and solo work.

Drama

Creative and fun drama classes for all ages, including warm up techniques, drama games, role play and improvisations. Let your imagination run wild! A fantastic confidence builder that also develops speaking, listening and teamwork skills.
