Fabulous Food. Big Tunes. Good People… and John Boyega

Back in January, we brought in 2020 with a New Year Party, celebrating with our members, friends and industry professionals who have supported TP over the past year. It was an evening of Fabulous Food. Big Tunes. Good People.

The evening was hosted by local actor and Theatre Peckham Board Member Simon Manyonda (His Dark Materials) and was a celebration of Afrofuturism and the unveiling of a mural of TP alumnus and Patron John Boyega by The Urban Artist The Artful Dodger.

We wanted to make a change for 2020 and toast the talent that has come from Peckham and look towards the future of those who will become…

The young people are the strength to our future. The Afrofuturism event felt like a way to recognise the work that we all do, pay tribute to legacy and make our mark on the future.

Our AD Suzann said: “The Artful Dodger has created a legacy piece here at Theatre Peckham, which also looks to the future. Our stunning mural of John Boyega not only pays tribute to our past, it inspires the next generation as they come through our doors. It celebrates the transformational power of the arts and the work we do here.”

We were so thrilled John was able to join us and unveil our tribute to him. We also welcomed the wonderful local newspaper the Peckham Peculiar. Over the past few years, they have been hugely supportive of our work and we wanted to share the celebration with them. They exclusively reported on the night and spoke to John about Peckham, our theatre and the future ahead.
