We are proud to announce that our Venue and Operations Manager, Marissa McKinnon, has been named a Finalist in the 2025 Black British Business Awards (BBBA) in the Rising Star: Arts and Media category, sponsored by Wellington Management.

Now in its twelfth year, the BBBAwards is the UK’s only premium awards programme celebrating the commercial excellence of Black professionals and entrepreneurs. The 2025 theme, #ELEVATE, highlights the journeys of trailblazers who continue to break barriers and redefine excellence in their fields despite systemic challenges.

“To be recognised as a Rising Star in the Arts and Media category, and then selected as a finalist, is a milestone in itself,” said Marissa. “I feel truly honoured to have my accomplishments acknowledged by such a prestigious award like the BBBA. Being a Venue and Operations Manager, especially at a place like Theatre Peckham, is so much more than managing a building. It’s about creating a space where the community feels welcomed and seen, opening doors for young people to gain the skills they need to thrive, and championing local Black businesses to help circulate wealth within our community. Being in a position where I can elevate others is both a privilege and a responsibility, which I carry with pride.”

The BBBAwards ceremony will be held in October 2025, celebrating finalists across six industry categories and honouring their contributions to the UK economy and culture. Past winners include Steven Bartlett, Dorothy Koomson, and Gavin Lewis.
