Play On: Project Macbeth Update

IN REHEARSAL

We are now in rehearsal at Theatre Peckham for our production of MACBETH with a fantastic cast of 15 young performers and aspiring actors between the ages of 14 and 25.  Our aspiring actors are part of Play On’s Access Training Programme. In addition to becoming company members they will have access to x3 CPDL workshops facilitated by Cheek by Jowl and ongoing career guidance from leading industry professionals.

THE SCRIPT

Novelist and playwright, Sarah May, is working on a new version of Shakespeare’s tragedy with the company, bringing into focus its acutely relevant themes of misuse of power and the legacy of tyranny. Alongside this version of the original text, we will be developing key improvised scenes in response to these themes. Enabling Play On’s young company to ground the production in their own world. Our world of today.

THE TEAM

We are fortunate to be working with a stunning creative team on Project Macbeth. Natalie Johnson is designing set and costume. Lighting is by Jonathan Samuels and Helen Skiera will be creating the production’s sound in collaboration with the company between now and March.

A huge thank you to Theatre Peckham for all their amazing ongoing support. For enabling this adventure in live performance and helping us to shine Shakespeare’s light in dark times.

We’re really excited to see what happens in the rehearsal room over the next three months. For further information on the guidelines we are following to make our rehearsals Covid-safe, please see here.
