Rap X Opera
TP and English Touring Opera present Rap X Opera
The model of a modern major general” – Hamilton…or opera?
Join rapper and writer John Akinde, also known as OSOM and Opera Singer Themba Mvula for this exciting new project in collaboration with Theatre Peckham. Through six ‘in person’ workshops culminating in a sharing event you will learn about rap, and opera through the operatic form of Gilbert & Sullivan. You may have heard loads of Gilbert & Sullivan before and just not realised it!
Through the sessions, you will work with John and Themba to learn about how to use your voice, both in rap, and opera. There will be opportunities for sound scaping, writing and performing your own lyrics – whether that will be as a rap or in song, you decide…
In the final session, your work will be recorded and shared on YouTube.
When: Every Wednesday, 7pm-8pm from 9 June – 14 July
Where: Theatre Peckham
Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience of rap or knowledge of opera, just bring some words and beats and we’ll help you form the rest.
This course is supported by English Touring Opera, D’Oyly Carte Opera Trust, D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust
