BORN::FREE presents Veranda: Young, Gifted & Black

Sat 17 Oct

About the show

BORN::FREE is one of London’s leading platforms for experimental, African and Afro-diasporic poetry and new writing. Over the last five years they have worked with the likes of the ICA, British Council, Hackney Empire and EartH Kitchen to deliver events and experiences that facilitate congregation and creativity with an international Black lens.

With a focus on critique, creation and craft, BORN::FREE returns to Theatre Peckham for the next edition of Veranda, a poetry jam & performance night with an open mic that centres emerging and established voices. This edition’s featured artists will respond to the theme Young, Gifted & Black through live, socially-distanced performances with the Veranda house band, led by drummer Nate Ricketts.

Hosted by the BORN::FREE team – writer/filmmaker Chima Nsodeo, writer and sound artist Belinda Zhawi and writer/theatre-maker malakaï sargeant – expect and informal yet insightful evening of live performance and readings packed with deep laughs and deep hums; many lessons and many blessings.
