Selam Aleykum, I Come in Peace is a debut hour of stand-up comedy exploring identity, faith, grief and belonging through the lens of an Ethiopian diaspora woman raised between cultures. Born during war and named “peace,” Selam navigates the contradictions of church, dating, anxiety and cultural expectation with sharp observation and warmth.  

Blending confessional storytelling with irreverent humour, the show holds space for the awkward Black girl — anxious, outspoken and unapologetically human. A funny, honest reflection on duality, survival and showing up anyway… fingers crossed. 

Selam is known for creating spaces where comedy crosses borders. She produces the acclaimed No Direction Home comedy series with Counterpoints Arts and is the founder of Azmari Bet. Her comedy is warm, smart, and rooted in lived experience. Selam is the winner of the TimeOut x Nando’s Extra Hot Comedy Club Competition 2025 and a finalist Omid Djalili competition Best Comedy Newcomer 2025 and Funny Women 2025 Ones to Watch list.
