LIVE EVENT AT THEATRE PECKHAM
Scratch That is a new artist development programme for writers aged 18+ designed to amplify the bold voices of emerging talent from all walks of life. Two writers have been selected to receive bespoke support for their writing, developing an existing idea and transferring it from the page to the stage in just six weeks.
Led by Resident Directors Emily Aboud and Anthony Simpson-Pike, we opened this window for submissions in the summer exclusively for Black writers, with a particular focus on amplifying stories from writers of Caribbean descent – with playwrights, comedians, poets and actors all submitted new writing to us. After an interview process, the final two writers were paired with a director to receive tailored dramaturgy support throughout September and October.
Excerpts of the final drafts will be performed in script-in-hand readings by Young Actors in the TP network, providing an expenses-paid opportunity and a performing credit for a number of brilliantly talented performers who have been out of work due to Covid-19. The scratch night creates the chance for the writers to test their work out in front of a live audience and gain crucial feedback from peers, audiences and cultural workers, where TP will continue to guide the writers with programming opportunities and writing funding applications.
Join us for what promises to be a vibrant night of performance and discussion championing new Black writing.
