About the show
AT THEATRE PECKHAM
At a time where police brutality, climate change, systemic imbalances in education and employment as well as a global health pandemic have impacted the Black community globally, Young & Gifted Chats is an opportunity to dissect pressing themes for Black Londoners and their allies today in a live-streamed panel event.
Bringing together Black artists, academics, educators and entrepreneurs who have excelled in their fields (or simply have a lot to say), the second edition will look at Decolonising Education in light of calls to shake up systems such as higher education and law enforcement in light of the resurgence of the international Black Lives Matter movement.
Featuring a panel of Black people making strides to deconstruct what is on the syllabus, as well as those who are creating their own, the discussion will pose what does it mean to actively decolonise when living in the UK. How do we ensure Black people and their histories and culture are included in the British schooling and higher education system – does it need to be, or should this education be done to empower the Black community exclusively?
Chaired by writer, filmmaker, former teacher and Peckham native Caleb Femi (pictured) with panelists to be announced soon!
General Admission: £5

Series of live-streamed discussions featuring experts in subject areas, followed by networking drinks in Gallery & Foyer space.
