Operations and Venue Manager 

Purpose of the post: The Operations and Venue Manager is responsible for efficient and effective management of the building including: creating a welcoming, safe space for audiences, participants, companies and visitors; duty management for events; health and safety in the venue and maximising revenue from activities, whilst supporting the artistic objectives of the company.  

Essential:

This position requires someone with proven experience in a Front of House or General Management role, interested in providing an excellent customer experience whilst increasing earned income and excited by the opportunity to take on the challenge of a new building.  In addition the candidate is expected to demonstrate;

  • A minimum of two years relevant experience working in an Operations, Front of House or General Management role in an arts venue.
  • Experience of Front of House and Duty Management and an understanding of licensing requirements
  • Ability to maximise income from hires and ancillary activities including experience of financial negotiations
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in person
  • Experience of dealing face to face with customers and the ability to remain calm in difficult situations
  • Experience of managing staff and/or volunteers.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively with an aptitude for problem solving.
  • Self-motivated, able to take the initiative and work to tight deadlines
  • Experience of working with socially mixed, culturally diverse groups
  • Willing and able to work unsociable hours when appropriate
  • Awareness of and commitment to delivering quality customer care and experiences.
  • Computer and IT literate.

Desirable:

  • Personal license holder and/or First Aider
  • Understanding of the negotiation and management of contracts.
  • Experience of letting spaces and managing a variety of contracted services
  • Experience of managing a café or bar
  • Experience of and interest in working with young people and families

Development Officer

Purpose of the post: This is a new role which will be well supported by a consultant, professionals on the board and the senior executive, to deliver fundraising targets for the new Theatre.  The Development Officer will have responsibility for working across all areas of fundraising, including individual donors and events, but with a particular focus on generating income from Trusts and Foundations to fund Theatre Peckham’s ambitions.

Essential:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • An ability to build effective relationships with people at all levels and the confidence to deal with a range of funders, corporate donors, community members, senior staff and Board members.
  • A pro-active self-starter, able to work on own initiative in developing proposals and solving problems
  • An understanding of Trust and Foundation fundraising for the arts
  • An ability to devise creative approaches to fundraising
  • Commitment to developing a career in fundraising
  • An understanding of and enthusiasm for Theatre Peckham’s vision and work
  • Able to perform effectively under pressure, motivated by working to deadlines
  • Thoroughness and meticulous attention to detail
  • Numerate
  • IT literate with experience of using databases
  • Flexibility to work unsociable hours including occasional evenings and weekends

 Desirable:

  • Experience of fundraising, particularly writing Trust and Foundation applications and reports
  • A track record of raising funds from a variety of sources
  • A fundraising qualification
  • Previous experience within the performing arts
  • Understanding of budgets and financial management
  • Experience of and interest in working with young people and families
  • Passionate about the arts and work with diverse young people
