In Theatre Peckham’s 40th Anniversary year, we are seeking an ambitious, thoughtful and collaborative Chair to help shape Theatre Peckham’s next chapter.

Working closely with our CEO and Artistic Director, Dr Suzann McLean MBE, fellow trustees and our wider community of stakeholders, our new Chair will help us turn a bold long-term vision into a resilient and sustainable strategy.

Who We Are Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have a strong connection to our purpose, values and community-rooted ethos.
  • Can lead the development of an ambitious vision and strategy, turning ideas into clear priorities and accountable delivery.
  • Understand the balance between entrepreneurial ambition and the financial care required to protect a publicly funded arts organisation.
  • Build trusting, candid and constructive relationships with a CEO, trustees and a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Chair inclusive conversations, draw out different perspectives and help a group reach sound collective decisions.
  • Can represent and advocate for Theatre Peckham with credibility across culture, public life, philanthropy, business and community networks.
  • Understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Can commit the time and energy required to be visible, engaged and well informed.

Key Dates

Monday 14 September, 10am: Deadline for applications.

Monday 12 October: Successful applicants will be interviewed by our Nominations Committee.

Tuesday 3 November: A second interview which will include a tour of our building and an informal conversation with the current Chair, will follow.

If you are shortlisted to the final stage, you will be invited to attend our next Board meeting as an observer on Tuesday 20 October, 5.30-7pm.

We are looking for Volunteer Design Assistants and Volunteer Technical Assistants for our Young Rep Production! This will be a great opportunity to learn about set design and technical theatre, no experience needed.
Volunteer Design Assistants
You will be: 
  • Assisting the Head of Technical with the set building and dressing during the Young Rep Production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
  • Liaising with the Young Rep directors on design concepts and helping to realise them
  • Sourcing props and set pieces when needed
You will learn: 
  • How to manage a small set budget
  • How to communicate set ideas with creatives and technicians
  • Common design techniques in live events and theatre
Volunteer Technical Assistants
You will be: 
  • Assisting the Head of Technical with the technical fit up and technical rehearsal during the Young Rep Production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
  • Operating lights, sound, or video during a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
You will learn:
  • How technical rehearsals are scheduled
  • Common technical theatre skills, such as rigging and focusing lights
  • How to programme basic lighting and sound software

 

Volunteers must be available for the following dates:

  • 28th-29th September: 10am-6pm
  • 5th October: 10-6pm

Volunteer Technical Assistants must also be available on one of the following dates:

  • 1st October: 6-10pm
  • 2nd October: 6-10pm
  • 3rd October: 6-10pm

Volunteering Scheme

We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to contribute to the vision of Theatre Peckham. Many past volunteers do so in order to gain experience in a theatre or simply to give back to their local community. Whether it is photography, graphic design, ushering or events, let us know what you are passionate about and we will find a place for you.

Placement Scheme (ages 13+)

Placements will be able to engage in various parts of Theatre Peckham, including departments of choice such as administration, costume and set design, marketing, finance, fundraising, technical and venue. Our Head of Academy will closely support the placements to get signed up onto the scheme and ensure we create the most useful and relevant placement for the young people. Placements can claim reimbursement for reasonable expenses (such as travel), so that finances are never a barrier to taking part in the placement scheme.
